To me, one of the BIGGEST benefits is the fact that there's a low start-up cost to get involved, and in some cases, depending on the company, it can be completely free to get started.  Now, before going further, I do want to point out that just because an online business is free to start doesn't mean it's any less in value than a business that is charging $50 - $100 or more to join. 

Another benefit of Affiliate Marketing is that you don't have to buy a building to house your business, meaning no overhead cost to pay out getting started or to maintain, some companies ask that you pay a fee to pay for things to stay in business. I believe companies do this to add more value to the business that you are in so you don't take it lightly. With affiliate marketing regardless of the company, a person should treat their business like it's a multi-million dollar business, if you treat it as such and do the necessary things to run your business, it will pay you like a million-dollar business. 

You can work your business from your home! This is a big one because this provides a person with the luxury to work in their PJ's and to be comfortable. You can work your business from anywhere nowaday's because of the use of the internet and cellphone's which I'm sure most people have. 

Also, I want to point out that there are no income caps in Affiliate Marketing. Of course, this varies from company to company, but for the most part, you can earn as much money as you like on a monthly basis. Will it require work? Of course, it will, just like anything that you do, to get the most from it you will have to do the work. Most of the time the work is something as simple as sharing what you have with others.
